Since I've been in Arizona I've been trying to catch a good picture of one of these critters. The Desert Spiny Lizard here has some interesting traits. When confronted it is rather humorous as it quite often does push-ups. I have read that this is a territorial display. But I think it's just to try to show off. 
"Ooh, look how strong I am! don't get near me! I'm tough!"
