The "cristate", or "crested" saguaro
happens when a normal saguaro cactus, for some unknown reason, loses its
normally organized growth structure pattern and splits off at the top and
spreads out randomly, instead of the normally smooth, rounded top.
This specimen here is not all that elaborate, but some
of them grow out with some very impressive twisted and random spirals.
I do hope, in my adventures, that I will eventually get
some pictures of some of the more impressive ones.
