Howdy Everyone!
I've seen many different things along the side of
the road, but today was the first time I saw someone's
dentures laying there!
Yesterday I walked from Saranac Lake to a horse
ranch 14 miles away.  The ranch was the only place
between here and there, so thats where I pulled in.
The owner was a grumpy old man, and he didn't want me
staying anywhere near the house, so he sent me clear
out on the north 40 to pitch a tent.  I found a fairly
nice place to set my tent, and was tired enough that I
slept fairly well.
I had made some calls from Saranac Lake to Tupper
Lake, the next town past the ranch, and contacted Holy
Name Church.  They called one of their members who
lives in Piercefield, and she also has epilepsy.  So
today when I walked to Piercefield, I was to stay with
Alan & Cheryl Tarbox.  The town only has 10 homes, so I
just knocked on a couple doors and asked where Alan &
Cheryl lived.  One lady said just 2 driveways down, and
pointed to it.  So I headed there.  I knocked on the
door and got no answer, so, figuring they were at work,
I just plopped down on their shaded lawn, kicked my
shoes and socks off, and napped.  About half an hour
later I could hear 2 elderly people from indoors
whispering "who is that?"  "I don't know.  Should we
call the police?"  "Is she injured?"  "Why is she in
our yard?"
About that time I realized I had the wrong house.
The lady timidly poked her head out the door, and asked
me who I was.  I asked her if this was where Alan
Tarbox lived, and she said no, that he was her nephew.
I told her my story, and she directed me 2 blocks down
the road.  Alan & Cheryl got a laugh out of my story,
but I think I kindof scared those poor people!
Later on Alan & Cheryl and I drove back to the ranch
to get my cart (they said they'd do that yesterday) and
on the way back we stopped at the Chamber of Commerce
and newspaper.  I felt so grubby and filthy and stinky
that all I wanted was a shower, and here I was doing an
interview and getting my picture taken.  I probably
looked like a convict.  There have only been a few
times that I've actually camped out in the boonies, and
I sure appreciated the shower this afternoon!
Later today at Alan & Cheryls house, we made a few
more phone calls to Cranberry Lake (tomorrow) and Star
Lake (thurs) to try and make some connections.  As it
turned out, I'll be staying at the Presbyterian Church
in Cranberry Lake, and someones house in Star Lake on
thursday.
Y'all take care and have a great day!  KB
